This is The 3 Halves Dress made from vintage McCall’s 9393A from 1953.
It’s made of only two pattern pieces – a bodice and a half circle skirt. You cut two of each and assemble it as two halves that wrap around and fasten at each side of the waist with a hook and eye. As I’m demonstrating below for the right half of the dress.
I made three halves because I did a little color blocking with a black and white floral rayon challis and a solid black rayon challis. After I had sewn up the two halves, I had enough of the solid to make another half so I can switch it up and wear it all black. This dress can really be worn three ways: all black, floral on top of black and black on top of floral. I love the versatility of it! I wore the floral on top of black version to my sister-in-law’s destination wedding in Florida in June and topped it off with a feathered headpiece. This dress is so easy and breezy it’s perfect for that sweltering summer heat.
